A Marketing Agency Just Admitted Its Website Never Landed a Client. Then It Built a New One Anyway

Denver’s Bound Agency's 13-year track record: zero deals closed on its own site, every client through referral. Its founder just relaunched the website to make sure that never changes

DENVER (September 16, 2026)— Lauren "Lolo" Butts has a confession most agency founders would bury: in 13 years running Bound Agency, her website has never closed a single deal. Every client has come through referral.

"I've never landed a client from our website because new business almost always comes from word of mouth," said Butts. "So this revamp wasn't about lead-gen. It was about building a beautiful, fun place that feels like the person you were already told to talk to. By the time you land on our site, someone you trust has probably said, 'you have to talk to Bound.' I wanted the site to make you feel that was good advice, and to confirm the instinct, not manufacture it."

Butts worked with Denver-based design studio Wunder Werkz to build a new website that looks less like an agency portfolio and more like a digital playground. Visitors can pull a tarot card with art and readings made in-house, build and share a custom cake, watch a live feed pulled from Bound's actual internal Slack, or rearrange a customizable, ever-shifting grid of videos, articles, art, songs, and games. There's no "About Us" page and no services list. The logic, as Butts puts it, is simple: if the site can't hold someone's attention for a few minutes, why would they trust Bound to hold an audience's attention day in and day out.

The site is also built to keep moving. Rather than a static page, it's designed to shift alongside real-world events and Bound's own evolving point of view—a reflection, Butts says, of how marketing itself works: never standing still.

The logo, doodles, and hand-drawn arrows scattered across the site are Butts' actual handwriting, a deliberate rejection of AI-generated polish in favor of something unmistakably human, right down to the eyeballs worked into Bound's branding, a signal that the agency is willing to look clients in the eye and be truth-tellers, even when something doesn't go right.

"Bound was the kind of client every studio hopes for," said Liz Henderson, Head of Development and Partner at Wunder Werkz. "There were very few rules, only the belief that creativity itself was the product they were hiring us to deliver. The goal was a site that felt energetic and disruptive, and most importantly, impossible to confuse with a typical agency portfolio. Every interaction is designed to reward curiosity, because this is less about efficiently communicating information and more about a vibe check that speaks to the agency long before you get to the resume."

The bet is a deliberate one. Some visitors will land on the site, get confused, and bounce. Bound is fine with that. The ones who stay and get it are exactly the clients Bound wants. A blog post already live on the site, titled "You're a marketing agency, so why cake?" explains the logic to anyone curious enough to go looking.

To be clear, Butts isn't saying that websites don't convert. Hers just doesn't, and that's by design. The website showcases Bound's strengths rather than chases metrics that were never going to work for the agency anyway. What she hopes visitors take away isn't a service list but a feeling—a team that takes the work seriously without taking themselves too seriously, with real taste and a real point of view; people you'd genuinely want in a room.

The new Bound Agency website is live now at boundagency.com.

About Bound Agency
Founded in 2013, Bound is a woman-owned and -run digital marketing agency based in Denver, offering UGC, content creation, SEM, and brand strategy. The agency is led by founder and CEO Lauren "Lolo" Butts, who has run Bound since 2013 after directing social media at Sprocket Communications and leading influencer marketing for Crocs, with brand work spanning Hello Kitty, New York Fashion Week, the CMAs, and Paris Hilton, as well as stints as a fractional CMO for several businesses. Bound was built on a simple belief: that genuine care and intentionality shouldn't be rare in an industry built on templates, funnels, and pitch decks. The agency rejects the traditional playbook in favor of curiosity, real relationships, and a point of view, values reflected in Bound's own website, which was built to represent the agency rather than sell it.
